New York, August 9, 2025 — A shooting early Saturday morning in Times Square left three people injured, police confirmed. The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. near West 44th Street and Seventh Avenue, just a block from iconic tourist venues such as the Hard Rock Café and Minskoff Theatre .
The victims include an 18-year-old woman (graze wound to the neck), a 19-year-old man (bullet wound to the right foot), and a 65-year-old man (shot in the left leg). All three were transported to Bellevue Hospital and are reported to be in stable condition .
According to the NYPD, the shooting followed a verbal dispute between the suspect and one of the victims. A 17-year-old male is now in custody; a firearm was recovered at the scene, though no charges have been formally filed as of Saturday morning .
Chaotic scenes were captured on social media, with videos showing panicked crowds running, emergency responders aiding wounded individuals on the ground, and bullet-riddled car windows near Times Square’s bustling core .
Despite this violent episode in a typically well-secured area, the NYPD notes that gun violence across New York City is down significantly—recording the lowest number of shooting incidents and victims in recent history. Between January and July 2025, there were 412 shooting incidents, a 23% drop from the same period in 2024 .
