At least 25 killed after aid truck overturns in Gaza

Gaza has been under blockade for 18 years, and since March 2 of this year, Israel has closed all entry points, severely restricting humanitarian aid. This has caused a humanitarian catastrophe for Gaza’s 2.4 million residents.

At least 25 people have been killed in Gaza after an aid truck overturned onto a crowd of people waiting for food. Many others were injured in the incident.

Additionally, at various times on Wednesday (August 6), Israeli forces carried out attacks across Gaza, killing another 24 Palestinians, according to a report by the Anadolu Agency on Thursday (August 7).

Citing the Palestinian state news agency WAFA, Anadolu reported that the truck was forced onto a dangerous road due to military pressure, leading to the accident. However, the exact location of the incident was not clearly specified.

A medical source reported that five Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli forces while waiting near an aid distribution center in western Rafah, southern Gaza. In another attack, five members of a single family were killed and at least 20 others injured in an airstrike on an apartment in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.

In Gaza City, a six-month-old baby was killed in a drone strike while at an aid shelter. Additional strikes on two homes in the same city killed at least eight more people, including children.

According to Anadolu, Gaza has been under blockade for 18 years, and since March 2 of this year, Israel has closed all entry points, severely restricting humanitarian aid. This has caused a humanitarian catastrophe for Gaza’s 2.4 million residents.

Gaza’s government stated that since July 27, only 843 aid trucks have entered the territory, while approximately 6,000 are needed daily.

According to Palestinian statistics, since May 27 of this year, at least 1,568 people have been killed and 11,230 injured near US-led aid distribution centers while waiting for assistance.

Gaza authorities have accused Israeli forces of deliberately creating “hunger and chaos.” They allege that the military is intentionally failing to provide security, forcing desperate civilians to gather on bomb-damaged, unsafe roads to receive aid, where overcrowding and famine already exist.

Many have criticized Israel’s aid distribution system as a “death trap for the hungry.”

Since the Israeli military campaign began in October 2023, more than 61,100 people have been killed in Gaza. The war has reduced the entire region to rubble and brought it to the brink of famine.
