According to Kushtia district police, the 24-year-old woman, who works at a local restaurant, was returning home with her husband around 10:30 p.m. on a van. On their way, a group of six to seven men intercepted them, assaulted both, and forcibly separated the woman from her husband. She was allegedly taken to a nearby litchi orchard and raped.

“We’ve confirmed that three of the suspects were directly involved in the sexual assault,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Faisal Mahmud, the spokesperson for Kushtia District Police. “The victim is being taken to Kushtia General Hospital for medical examination.”
The case was officially filed on Sunday afternoon by the victim’s husband. Local police and the Detective Branch (DB) launched overnight raids and successfully detained the accused.

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community and raised concerns about women’s safety in rural areas. Rights activists have demanded exemplary punishment and urgent judicial action.
As investigations continue, Kushtia police have assured that all legal and forensic procedures will be followed, and no perpetrator will be spared.
