Israel has issued a direct threat to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The warning came from Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who made the remarks publicly during a recent military visit.
Speaking at the Ramon Airbase in southern Israel, Gallant stated: “From here, I want to send a clear message to the tyrant Khamenei: if you continue threatening Israel, our long arm will once again reach Tehran — with even greater force this time — and you personally will be a target.”
The statement, first reported by the Anadolu Agency on Sunday night (July 27), was also quoted by the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth. Alongside the assassination threat, Gallant warned of renewed Israeli military strikes against Iran.
As of now, there has been no official response from Tehran.
Background
Tensions between the two nations have escalated in recent weeks. On June 13, Israel launched airstrikes targeting Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure. In retaliation, Iran responded with missile and drone attacks. The United States also became involved, carrying out bombing raids on three Iranian nuclear sites.
After nearly two weeks of hostilities, a ceasefire was brokered by Washington on June 24, temporarily halting the conflict.
