USA Bangabandhu Parishad Condemns “Genocide” in Gopalganj, Blames Dr. Yunus and NCP for Orchestrating) Unrest

Cranbury, New Jersey | July 16, 2025 —
The USA Bangabandhu Parishad has issued a strongly worded statement condemning what it described as a “genocide” in Gopalganj, Bangladesh—the birthplace of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The group alleged that militants involved in the August 24 terrorist attack held a provocative meeting titled “March to Gopalganj” on July 24, instigating violence that led to the deaths of more than 15 unarmed civilians.

According to the statement signed by Dr. Nuran Nabi, President of the Parishad, and Rana Hassan Mahmudh, Secretary, the violence was directed by Dr. Muhammad Yunus and executed by illegal NCP-affiliated Islamic fundamentalists, allegedly aiming to defile the Bangabandhu mausoleum. The group accused two individuals, Hasnat and Sargis, of previously destroying the historic Dhanmondi 32 residence, calling the attack part of a larger anti-state conspiracy.

“When unarmed residents of Gopalganj protested the meeting, the Bangladesh Army, with direction from Dr. Yunus, opened fire directly,” the statement claimed, adding that over 100 people were injured.

Drawing historical parallels, the Parishad compared the resistance in Gopalganj to that of Leningrad during World War II, asserting that “militant terrorists of Bangladesh were forced to retreat with the help of the Bangladesh Army.”

Calling July 16, 2025 “a blood-stained day in the history of resistance,” the USA Bangabandhu Parishad thanked the people of Gopalganj for their courage and declared the day will be remembered in history.
