Hasina’s Commando Forces Ready to Protect Mujib’s Shrine – Major Unrest Feared in Bangladesh on Wednesday

The Wall Bureau: On the anniversary of Bangladesh’s July-August uprising, the newly formed National Citizens’ Party (NCP), led by former anti-discrimination student leaders, has launched a nationwide campaign. Their rallies and gatherings are drawing participation from Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Chhatra Shibir.

The shrine of Bangladesh’s founding father and first President, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, is located in Tungipara, Gopalganj district — a national monument. Intelligence inputs suggest that NCP-Jamaat-Shibir armed cadres may attempt an attack on this shrine.

The Awami League has issued alerts to its leaders and workers across Gopalganj and neighboring districts. These warnings have been widely circulated through internal WhatsApp groups.

In response, the Awami League has prepared countermeasures. Hasina’s cadre forces — officially named the “Mujib Bahini” — are on standby. If any attack is attempted, this armed force is expected to launch a swift and forceful retaliation.

Additionally, on Monday and Tuesday, the Awami League is expected to urge the military and police to adopt maximum security measures to protect Bangabandhu’s shrine. One Awami League leader stated, “We do not want unrest. But if anyone touches the shrine of Bangabandhu, there will be a river of blood.”

According to party leaders, intelligence reports suggest that NCP-Jamaat-Shibir-BNP armed groups have already taken shelter in various homes across Gopalganj, Tungipara, and nearby districts. They plan to destroy the Mujib shrine, just as the historic residence at Dhanmondi-32 in Dhaka was once attacked. To prevent a repeat, the government has placed both the military and police under high alert, alongside continuous monitoring by Awami League cadres.

Gopalganj and neighboring districts are still strongholds of the Awami League. Armed party cadres are present in nearly every neighborhood. If an attack occurs, there will be mass resistance. During last year’s August 5 uprising, local people had surrounded military units, compelling them to act against Jamaat-BNP terrorism.

An internal Awami League message stated:

“The shrine of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara, Gopalganj, is not just a grave—it is the soul of the Bengali nation. But with deep concern, we inform you that conspirators supported by NCP and Jamaat-e-Islami are planning to carry out sabotage on July 16, 2025, at this sacred site.”

According to the message, trusted sources confirmed that NCP plans to enter Gopalganj via Patgati as part of a southern rally on that day. The operation will reportedly be led by Tarek Saidi, son of executed war criminal Delwar Hossain Saidi. Since NCP and Jamaat lack organizational strength in Gopalganj, they are mobilizing supporters from Barisal and Pirojpur districts.

In this context, the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to launch a nationwide combing operation. The government is also reportedly taking steps to evacuate Gopalganj to neutralize potential threats.

In light of these developments, the following actions are being called for:

Ensure maximum alert and military presence at the Tungipara shrine.

Mobilize mass resistance with participation from local Awami League and allied organizations.

Unite immediately to thwart this conspiracy.
