Iga Swiatek Dominates Wimbledon Final, Defeats Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0

In a historic and one-sided Wimbledon final, Poland’s Iga Swiatek defeated American Amanda Anisimova with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory on Saturday. The match, which lasted just 57 minutes, marked the first women’s final at Wimbledon in 114 years where one player failed to win a single game.

Swiatek, 24, claimed her sixth Grand Slam title, adding to her four French Open and one U.S. Open wins. Despite being seeded No. 8, she showed dominant form at Centre Court, capturing the Venus Rosewater Dish in front of a crowd that included Kate, the Princess of Wales, who participated in the trophy ceremony.

This was Anisimova’s first appearance in a Grand Slam final. The 23-year-old, born in New Jersey and raised in Florida, had previously taken a career break in 2023 due to mental fatigue from elite competition. Her return saw a remarkable run, including a stunning upset over world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-final.

Swiatek and Anisimova had never faced each other professionally before this final. As juniors, Anisimova won the 2017 U.S. Open girls’ title, while Swiatek claimed the 2018 Wimbledon junior crown.

Swiatek briefly faced controversy last year due to a doping investigation but was cleared after it was found she had unintentionally consumed a contaminated medical product.

Despite the final’s result, Anisimova will break into the WTA top 10 next week — a milestone in her comeback journey.
