Zelenskyy Urges European Allies for Drone Funding at Rome Recovery Conference

Rome, July 11, 2025 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has issued a direct appeal to European allies for increased financial support and investment in drone technology, warning that Russia’s escalating aerial assault could soon reach unprecedented levels.
Speaking at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome, Zelenskyy revealed that Russian forces may deploy up to 1,000 drones per day, a tactic aimed at destabilizing Ukraine through relentless air raids. “We have found a solution as a country,” he said. “Scientists and engineers have developed effective interceptor drones. Now, we need finances—and we will raise it”.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s defense sector is prepared to mass-produce counter-drone systems capable of neutralizing Iranian-designed Shahed drones, which have been used extensively by Russian forces. He called on partner nations to invest in Ukraine’s drone production capabilities, describing the technology as “proven and scalable”.
The conference, attended by representatives from over 30 countries and hundreds of companies, focused on Ukraine’s long-term recovery and defense needs. Zelenskyy stressed that bolstering air defenses is not only vital for Ukraine’s survival but also for the security of Europe. “Everything we are building now to protect Ukraine will help protect you as well,” he told delegates.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and other European leaders have expressed support for Ukraine’s defense initiatives, with discussions underway to allocate additional funding for drone production and interceptor systems.
As Russia intensifies its drone and missile attacks—most recently targeting the city of Lutsk in one of the largest aerial bombardments of the war—Zelenskyy’s call for urgent financial backing underscores the critical role of international solidarity in Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty.
