Iranian Official Issues Chilling Drone Threat Against Trump Amid Rising Tensions

Washington, July 10, 2025 — A senior Iranian official has sparked global alarm after suggesting that former U.S. President Donald Trump could be assassinated by a drone strike while sunbathing at his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago. The provocative remark, made by Mohammad-Javad Larijani, a close adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, aired on Iranian state television and has since gone viral.
“Trump has done something that he can no longer sunbathe in Mar-a-Lago,” Larijani said. “As he lies there with his stomach to the sun, a small drone might hit him in the navel. It’s very simple”.
The statement follows the emergence of an online campaign called Ahde Khoun (Blood Pact), which has reportedly raised over $40 million to fund retaliation against individuals accused of threatening Iran’s leadership. The campaign’s homepage pledges rewards for those who “bring the enemies of God and those who threaten the life of Ali Khamenei to justice.”
Iranian media outlets affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have amplified the campaign, while hardline publications like Kayhan have called for the application of Islamic rulings on moharebeh—a charge of waging war against God, punishable by death under Iranian law.
Trump responded to the threat with a mix of humor and caution during a Fox News interview. “Yeah, I guess it’s a threat. I’m not sure it’s a threat, actually — but perhaps it is,” he said. When asked when he last sunbathed, Trump quipped, “Maybe when I was about 7. I’m not really into it”.
The chilling rhetoric comes in the wake of a 12-day war between Iran and Israel, during which U.S. forces bombed three Iranian nuclear sites. Trump has claimed the strikes “obliterated” Tehran’s capabilities, though intelligence leaks suggest Iran retained much of its infrastructure.
While Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has distanced his government from the assassination rhetoric, stating that the fatwa against Trump “has nothing to do with the Iranian government or the Supreme Leader,” hardline factions continue to push for retribution.
The threat underscores the deepening hostility between Washington and Tehran, raising concerns over the safety of high-profile American figures and the potential for further escalation in the region.
