Leaders and activists of the United States Awami League and its affiliated organizations held a protest rally in New York against the six-month prison sentence given to former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.The rally was held at Diversity Plaza in Jackson Heights on July 2 at 9 PM, presided over by Dr. Siddiqur Rahman, President of the US Awami League. The event was conducted by General Secretary Abdus Samad Azad.Speakers including Dr. Pradeep Ranjan Kar, Mohammad Ali Siddiqui, Shah Bakhtiar, Nuruzzaman Sardar, Tanvir Kaiser, Solaiman Ali, Jewel Ahmed, Hakikul Islam Khokon, Sadekul Badruzzaman Panna, Sharif Kamrul Alam Hira, among others, expressed their protest against the six-month prison sentence handed down to former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in a fabricated case by the occupier-killer Yunus government in an illegal criminal tribunal.Demanding the resignation of the illegally-installed Dr. Yunus, the speakers said that the kangaroo court of illegitimate Yunus has given an illegal six-month sentence to the people’s leader, Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which the people of Bangladesh have rejected with contempt.In a contempt of court case, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to six months of simple imprisonment. The order was given by a three-member tribunal led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuja Mojumdar on Wednesday, July 2.
