At least four people have been killed in a shooting outside a nightclub in Chicago, Illinois, in the Midwestern United States. The incident occurred at around 11 PM local time on Wednesday outside The Artis Lounge nightclub in Chicago’s River North area, leaving several others seriously injured.
According to a report by American news outlet NBC News, a crowd had gathered outside the nightclub following the album launch party of the country’s music artist and rapper Melo Bibakz.
The Chicago Mayor’s Office of Community Safety confirmed the casualties in the shooting outside the nightclub. They said that at around 11 PM on Wednesday, an event featuring music artist and rapper Melo Bibakz was taking place at The Artis Lounge nightclub. The shooting occurred as people were socializing outside the club after the event ended.
Police said that as a black car drove past the club on West Chicago Avenue, a person inside the vehicle fired shots at the people standing outside. After the shooting, the car quickly fled the scene.
Chicago police reported that several men and women in their 20s and 30s were injured in the incident. They were rescued and taken to local hospitals. According to news reports, the condition of eight people who were shot is currently stable. Among them, a 29-year-old woman was shot below the knee, and a 29-year-old man was shot in the thigh.
Additionally, a 31-year-old woman was shot in the knee, a 25-year-old man in the hand and thigh, a 25-year-old woman in the thigh, a 30-year-old woman in the hand, a 29-year-old man in the arm, and a 27-year-old woman in the leg.
A Chicago police official stated that after rescuing the injured, they were taken to multiple local hospitals, where at least four people died while receiving treatment. Among the deceased were a 24-year-old man who was shot in the chest, a 25-year-old young man shot in the head, and two adult women shot in the chest. They also died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police reported that among the dead were the boyfriend of rapper Melo and a close friend.
