Widespread Protests Across the U.S. Against Attack on Iran

The United States has launched an attack targeting three nuclear facilities in Iran. Amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Tehran, the U.S. military carried out this strike. In response, massive protests have erupted across the United States.People in numerous cities across the country have taken to the streets. It has also been reported that a majority of the American public does not support a war with Iran. CNN reported this information on Monday (June 23).According to CNN, following the airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump, people across the country erupted in protest on Sunday. From Los Angeles to New York, citizens came out onto the streets.Protesters expressed concern that this attack could lead to a large-scale war and distract from ongoing domestic crises.CNN noted that in downtown Los Angeles, many gathered in front of the Federal Building, chanting slogans such as “Hands off Iran” and “Jobs and education, not war.” Many of the protesters were Iranian-American.One young man told CNN, “My family is in Iran. Their city is being bombed, so this is a deeply personal issue for me.”Protests also took place in various parts of New York City. In Midtown, over a hundred people marched with placards reading “Hands off Iran” and “No new war in the Middle East.” Organizer Yvette Felarca said, “If this continues, it could start a world war, potentially resulting in nuclear devastation.”On the same day, more than a hundred people gathered at Boston Common Park, later marching through the city to City Hall. Many expressed anger, saying that while ordinary people are struggling with rent, healthcare, and education, the government is spending billions on “unnecessary, illegal, and costly wars.”Brian Garvey, executive director of Massachusetts Peace Action, stated, “We’ve been making the same mistake for years.”In San Francisco, more than a hundred people marched down Market Street. Many demonstrators accused Trump of breaking his election promises. During his campaign, Trump had pledged to pull back from foreign military conflicts.Iranian-American activist Ardavan Amini said, “My relatives are in Iran. Right now, safety is our biggest concern.”Additionally, residents in Bend, Oregon gathered in the city center, raising questions about Trump’s decision to strike Iran without Congressional approval. Protest organizer Freddie Finney-Jordet said, “It’s not just Trump—many presidents have exceeded their executive powers.”In downtown Richmond, Virginia, around 50 protesters gathered on Sunday. They demanded that war not be pursued and that taxpayers’ money be spent domestically. Rain Boro of Veterans for Peace stated, “The majority of the American people do not want a war with Iran.”
