Novak Djokovic, the owner of 24 Grand Slam titles, lost in the final of the Miami Open to 19-year-old Jakub Mensik. The 37-year-old Serbian tennis star was defeated by the Czech player in straight sets (7-6, 7-6). With this win, Mensik claimed his first ATP title, having been inspired to play tennis by none other than Djokovic himself.
The match was delayed for several hours due to rain and thunderstorms. In the first set, Djokovic lost his serve early but managed to break Mensik’s serve in the seventh game. However, Jakub dominated in the tiebreaker, winning the first set. The second set saw a tough battle, with Djokovic giving his best effort, but he could not match the pace of Mensik, ultimately losing the second set as well.
This defeat means Djokovic’s wait for his 100th career title continues. He has won 99 titles so far, and a win at the Miami Open would have marked his 100th. Djokovic now must wait a bit longer to join the exclusive club of players with over 100 titles, which includes Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103).
