113 Days, 25 Murders, 57 Unnatural Deaths in Narayanganj

Under the leadership of Nobel laureate Dr. Yunus, the entire country has become a place of lawlessness. One area greatly affected is Narayanganj, a major industrial hub near Dhaka, where law and order have been deteriorating day by day. There have been almost daily incidents of murder and other crimes, especially since August 5.

According to information from various police stations in Narayanganj, from August 1 to November 21, 93 people were killed. Among them, 25 were murders, 11 died in road accidents, and 57 died of unnatural causes.

Between November 1 and 21, 24 bodies were found in Narayanganj. Of these, 9 were murder victims, 5 died in road accidents, and 10 died of unnatural causes.

The most talked-about incident was the discovery of the dismembered body of businessman Jasim Uddin Mamun from Fatullah. On November 13, police found his body in seven pieces wrapped in plastic, in a lake near the Kanchon-Kuril road in Rupganj.

Jasim Uddin Mamun, from Fatullah’s Sastapur area, was a businessman who owned factories including the Chand Dyeing Factory in Fatullah. He lived with his family in the Bashundhara residential area of Dhaka. Two women, Ruma Akter and Ruksana (also known as Ruku), were arrested in connection with this case and are currently in jail.

Before this, between October 1 and 31, 31 bodies were found in various locations of Narayanganj. Of these, 6 were murder victims, 22 died of unnatural causes, and 3 were killed in road accidents. Similarly, from September 1 to 30, 25 bodies were found, including 7 murders, 16 unnatural deaths, and 2 road accident deaths.

Every month, the number of bodies found has been increasing. In August alone, 13 bodies were found, with 3 murders, 9 unnatural deaths, and 1 road accident death.

Regarding the situation in Narayanganj, Nuru Uddin Ahmed, president of the apolitical group Amra Narayanganjbashi, stated that since August 5, crime rates have risen as criminal groups engage in more illegal activities. He said, “People are afraid to go for a walk in the morning. There are constant robberies, and many incidents don’t even reach the police station. The administration needs to be more active and responsible to improve the situation.”

Narayanganj’s police chief, Pratyush Kumar Majumdar, explained that Narayanganj is an industrial area where people from different districts live, which can lead to various incidents. “However, we are on high alert regarding murders and respond immediately to any potential crime scenes. We are not letting criminals go free.”

Narayanganj’s District Commissioner, Mahmudul Haque, added that a joint committee has been formed to address the situation, including law and order officers. They have identified crime-prone areas, focusing on robberies, thefts, and the rise of youth gangs, and are working to reduce crime in these areas. He hopes for quick results from these efforts.
