The outgoing year i.e. 2024 was wrapped in data breaches incidents. This will be history for large-scale data breaches.

Billions of data from millions of people and businesses around the world have been lost this year, which is estimated to be worth about $ 10 trillion, computer security company McAfee wrote in the report.

Some of the data breaches this year were-

Data breach of National Public Data or NPD

This year, the National Public Data (NPD) was a data breach or data breach, through which about three billion data of citizens of the United States, United Kingdom and Canada was lost. The company was accused of “class-action” in a lawsuit filed in Florida.

In December 2023, a cybercriminal broke into NPD’s systems, the British tabloid The Register reported. Then between April 2024 and the summer season, users’ data was leaked to the dark web. As a result of this breach, people’s names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and Social Security numbers were also exposed.
Many of the victims may have had no idea that NPD kept personal data to itself. The company confirmed the data breach on August 12, 2024. The NPD is also facing a class action lawsuit and state and federal government investigations.

‘Ticketmaster’ data breach

The personal information of more than 500 million people may have been compromised in the event of a Ticketmaster data breach.

Live Nation Entertainment, the parent company of US entertainment company Ticketmaster, announced the data breach for the first time in late May. At the time, the company said it had flagged “unauthorised activity” on its network between April 2 and May 18.

Soon after, the known hacking group ‘Shinyhunters’ claimed responsibility for the hacking. At the time, the hackers said the 1.3 terabytes of information stolen included personal information, including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, order and payment card information of 560 million people.

The hacker group is also accused of posting this information on the dark web for sale in late May. At that time, Live Nation notified victims of the data breach via email.

Infosys McCamish Systems data breach

The data breach at insurance and financial technology vendor Infosys McCamish Systems (IMS) affected millions of people in 2024.
The cyber attack on IMS has impacted individuals with accounts in companies such as Bank of America, Oceanview Life and Annuity Company, Fidelity Investments Life Insurance, Newport Group and Union Labour Life Insurance.

Notices were sent to the victims in various ways and times at that time. Bank of America sent notices to 50,000 people in February about the cyber attack. They warned customers that their information was compromised by an unknown third party.

Fidelity Investments Life Insurance reported the cyber attack on 28,000 victims in March. In late June, eight months after the initial cyberattack, they contacted six million victims.
