The United States has pledged $500,000 in humanitarian assistance to communities affected by devastating floods in Nepal, with the funds aimed at providing emergency shelter, clean water, sanitation facilities and other essential relief supplies.
In a statement issued on Thursday (August 27), the US Department of State expressed deep condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed in the devastating flash floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district. The statement also said the United States was thinking of all those affected by the disaster.
Hundreds of people remain missing following the sudden floods and landslides. According to the report cited by BBC, at least 54 US citizens, most of them tourists, were among those reported missing.
The disaster was triggered by powerful surges of water flowing downstream, with at least 157 people reported dead so far. Authorities fear the death toll could rise further as rescue and recovery operations continue.
The US assistance is intended to support immediate humanitarian needs and help affected communities cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
