United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths, disappearances and widespread destruction caused by devastating floods along the Nepal-China border.
Guterres conveyed his condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the disaster.
In a message, the UN chief said he was deeply saddened by the loss of lives, the large number of people still missing and the extensive destruction caused by the floods.
Expressing solidarity with everyone affected, Guterres said UN teams and partners were taking steps to provide equipment and personnel to support the rescue and relief operations being led by the Nepalese government.
At least 157 people have reportedly died in the sudden floods in Nepal. According to the BBC, Nepal Police have recovered 157 bodies. Around 403 tourists remain unaccounted for following the disaster, including 341 foreign nationals.
Rescue teams are continuing their efforts to locate missing people and assist those affected by the flooding and related landslides.
