Trump Says US Will Seek Compensation From Iran

Date:

US President Donald Trump has said the United States will seek compensation from Iran, after Tehran demanded compensation for damage caused by US and Israeli attacks during months of conflict.

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said Iran was now seeking compensation even though, according to him, the issue had never been raised in previous talks or meetings.

Trump said he would similarly seek compensation from Iran for people killed or seriously injured in roadside bombings and other conflicts involving Tehran.

His remarks included the families of those killed in the USS Cole attack, as well as what he described as thousands of others who died in wars and conflicts.

Trump also said Iran should compensate the families of protesters killed in Iran over the past 50 years, as well as the families of 52,000 people he said had been killed during the past five months.

The US president said he had instructed his representatives to include the compensation demand in any future negotiations with Tehran.

Trump’s comments come as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high following months of conflict and amid discussions over the possibility of further diplomatic engagement between the two sides.
