The race to sign Ferran Torres is heating up after Paris Saint-Germain’s opening offer for the Barcelona forward was rejected by the Catalan club.
PSG reportedly offered €40 million for the 26-year-old Spain international, but Barcelona turned down the proposal, believing the amount was not sufficient.
However, the negotiations are not over. A Barcelona source confirmed that discussions between the two clubs are still ongoing, suggesting PSG remain determined to bring Torres to Paris.
Torres Open to PSG Move
While Barcelona rejected the initial bid, Torres’ own position could become a decisive factor in the transfer.
According to reports in the Spanish media, the forward has already given his approval to a potential move to PSG. Speaking to reporters during Barcelona’s pre-season tour in the United States, Torres was also non-committal about his future, saying he has a contract with Barcelona but that anything can happen in football.
Torres’ value and demand have risen significantly following his impressive international campaign. He scored the winning goal in extra time against Argentina in the World Cup final, helping Spain secure the title.
The performance has further increased interest in the forward from several major European clubs.
Barcelona Facing a Difficult Decision
Torres joined Barcelona from Manchester City in 2021 for a reported €55 million. Over the past two seasons, he has made 94 competitive appearances for the club, scoring 40 goals.
Under manager Hansi Flick, however, Torres has often been used as a backup to Robert Lewandowski rather than as the team’s first-choice striker.
That situation could change this season following major changes to Barcelona’s attacking options. Lewandowski has left for Chicago Fire, while England forward Marcus Rashford has returned to Manchester United following the end of his loan spell.
With Lewandowski gone, Barcelona may have greater need for Torres, particularly after his World Cup-winning performance.
Barcelona Exploring Alternatives
Barcelona are also looking at other options for their attack. The club remain interested in Argentina striker Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid, although a deal has yet to materialize.
The Catalan club have also added players such as Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon to their attacking plans, meaning any decision on Torres’ future will depend not only on finances but also on Barcelona’s broader squad strategy.
Why Did Barcelona Reject €40 Million?
The €40 million offer from PSG was not enough to convince Barcelona to sell Torres. Reports suggest the Catalan club would demand a higher fee before considering his departure.
PSG may therefore need to return with an improved proposal if they want to secure the Spain forward.
