India Strikes Pakistan in Response to Kashmir Attack: Is South Asia on the Brink Again?

Dastagir Jahangir
Editor, The Voice News | White House & State Department Correspondent | International Affairs Analyst At last, the long-brewing tension has erupted. India has launched a military strike inside Pakistani territory in retaliation for a deadly militant attack in Kashmir. While the move may satisfy calls for justice among the Indian public, the consequences of this escalation are likely to be far-reaching—diplomatically and geopolitically.

Kashmir has long been a powder keg—an epicenter of political volatility, terrorism, and territorial contestation. The recent attack, which resulted in the deaths of multiple Indian security personnel, reignited national outrage. Citing credible intelligence pointing to Pakistan-based militant groups, India crossed the Line of Control in what it describes as a “precision strike” meant to send a message: external threats will not go unanswered.

But does this act of aggression mark a strategic victory or the beginning of a broader crisis? With both India and Pakistan being nuclear-armed states, such hostilities pose a direct threat not only to regional stability but to global peace.

Bangladesh’s Stance: Troubling and Dangerous
At a time when diplomacy, balance, and stability are most needed in South Asia, the interim government in Bangladesh—led by Muhammad Yunus—has repeatedly taken openly anti-India positions, raising concerns among foreign policy experts. Through public statements and deliberate alignments, the government appears to be echoing Pakistan-leaning narratives, which analysts view as a deeply misguided and reckless approach.

By disregarding India’s critical support during Bangladesh’s 1971 liberation war, Yunus risks alienating a long-standing ally. Should he continue to tilt toward Pakistan in this crisis, the consequences could be severe—both politically and diplomatically. Hostility toward India does not just weaken bilateral relations; it also threatens Bangladesh’s regional security, economic stability, and global credibility.

Geopolitically, Bangladesh occupies a position where strategic neutrality and pragmatic diplomacy are essential. Any attempt to align with Islamist factions or propagate anti-India sentiment in favor of Pakistan’s agenda could backfire—internally at the political level and externally in terms of international engagement.

The Role of the International Community
This is a critical moment for global actors to intervene diplomatically and prevent this crisis from spiraling into a full-scale war. At the same time, the rise of radical narratives and divisive politics within Bangladesh must not go unnoticed by the international community.

The Kashmir conflict demands a political—not military—solution. And Bangladesh must decide: will it stand with history and its foundational allies, or walk a dangerous path of denial and destruction?
