India Launches ‘Operation Sindoor’ Targeting Terror Camps in Pakistan

On May 6, 2025, India initiated ‘Operation Sindoor’, a series of precision missile strikes against nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. This action was in direct response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 civilians, including 25 Indians and one Nepali, were killed. India attributes the attack to the Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, allegedly supported by Pakistan.

Key Highlights:
• Targets and Execution: The Indian Armed Forces struck nine sites, including the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur. The strikes were conducted without Indian aircraft entering Pakistani airspace, utilizing missile technology to ensure precision.
• Casualties and Damage: India reports the elimination of over 70 militants and injuries to 60 others. Pakistan confirms at least nine civilian deaths, including a child, and 38 injuries. Additionally, two mosques in Bahawalpur were reportedly damaged.
• Military Engagements: Pakistan claims to have shot down five Indian fighter jets and a drone, and alleges the capture of Indian soldiers. India has not confirmed these claims but reports the downing of a Pakistani fighter jet over Pampore.
• Diplomatic Repercussions: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the strikes as an act of war, vowing a strong response. Both nations have suspended visa services and downgraded diplomatic ties.
• International Response: Global leaders, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and U.S. President Donald Trump, have expressed deep concern, urging both countries to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation.

The situation remains volatile, with ongoing military activities along the Line of Control and heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The international community continues to monitor developments closely, advocating for dialogue and de-escalation
