Bangladesh Dengue Death Toll Tops 300

- October 11, 2026, 02:10 PM ET

Bangladesh’s dengue death toll has surpassed 300 this year, while daily hospital admissions have reached their highest level of 2026, highlighting the worsening outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease.

Four more people died and 2,193 dengue patients were hospitalized in the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest fatalities brought the country’s dengue death toll to 303, while total hospital admissions rose to 99,275 since the beginning of the year.

Of the four deaths, two occurred in Khulna Division, while Chattogram and Rajshahi divisions reported one each.

The figures were released Sunday in the health directorate’s regular dengue bulletin.

Hospital Admissions Reach Year’s Highest Level

The 2,193 hospitalizations recorded in a single day marked the highest daily figure this year.

Dhaka Division accounted for 1,030 new admissions, including 250 each in the Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporation areas and 530 elsewhere in the division.

Outside Dhaka, Khulna Division reported 304 new patients, followed by Chattogram with 293, Barishal with 236, Rajshahi with 160, Rangpur with 84, Mymensingh with 70 and Sylhet with 16.

During the same 24-hour period, 1,796 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

According to the DGHS, 92,803 dengue patients have been discharged after treatment this year, while 6,069 remain hospitalized nationwide.

October Deaths Rise to 58

Dengue has claimed 58 lives in the first 11 days of October, following a particularly deadly September that recorded 148 deaths.

The country reported 43 dengue deaths in August, 36 in July and 13 in June, after relatively few fatalities earlier in the year.

The rapid increase in infections and deaths has intensified concerns about mosquito control and the growing pressure on hospitals.

Bangladesh recorded 413 dengue deaths and 102,861 hospital admissions in 2025. With nearly three months remaining in 2026, this year’s hospitalizations are already approaching last year’s total.

The latest figures underscore the continuing public health challenge posed by dengue as infections spread across the country.
