Houthis Claim Saudi F-15 Fighter Jet Shot Down Over Yemen

- September 17, 2026, 09:20 AM ET

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed that they shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet while it was conducting what they described as a hostile operation over Yemen’s Marib governorate.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree made the claim on Wednesday, September 16, according to Qatar-based Al Jazeera.

In a statement, Saree said Houthi forces brought down the Saudi aircraft using a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile while it was carrying out a hostile mission in the skies over Marib.

The Houthis said the operation was conducted in response to what they described as Saudi-led aggression against Yemen and its people.

Local sources cited in the report said the fighter jet was brought down near Mount Hailan, northwest of Marib.

There was no immediate comment from the Saudi-led coalition on the Houthi claim.

The reported incident comes amid continued tensions linked to Yemen’s long-running conflict, with the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition having engaged in repeated military confrontations in and around the country.
