Explosions Reported in Two Saudi Regions as Fire Breaks Out at Energy Facilities

Date:

A powerful explosion was heard in Saudi Arabia’s Jubail region on Sunday, while regional sources reported a fire at a gas facility in Jubail Industrial City. At the same time, Saudi authorities confirmed that a fire broke out at a Saudi Aramco facility in the southwestern Jizan region.

Several regional sources reported hearing a loud blast in the Jubail area, although the cause of the explosion has not been officially confirmed.

According to regional reports, a gas facility in Jubail Industrial City was targeted, triggering a fire at the site. Details about the nature of the reported incident, the extent of the damage or any casualties were not immediately available.

Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry, meanwhile, said a fire broke out at an Aramco facility linked to the company’s refinery operations in Jizan. The ministry did not immediately provide a cause for the fire but said there were no fatalities. The fire was subsequently brought under control, according to reports.

The developments have prompted speculation about possible attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure. Some regional and Israeli media reports have attributed the reported Jubail incident to Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement, but Saudi authorities have not officially confirmed who was responsible for the blast or described it as a Houthi attack.

The Houthis have previously targeted Saudi energy infrastructure, making the latest reports particularly significant amid continuing regional tensions.

It remains unclear whether the fire at the Aramco facility in Jizan and the reported explosion and fire in Jubail are connected. Saudi authorities have not announced any direct link between the two incidents.

Further details regarding the cause of the incidents, possible damage and any impact on energy operations are expected as authorities continue their assessments.
