FBI Director Kash Patel has publicly dismissed a wave of conspiracy theories and resignation rumors surrounding the agency’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, amid growing tensions between the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ).
In a statement posted on social media Saturday, Patel wrote, “The conspiracy theories just aren’t true, never have been. It’s an honor to serve the President of the United States @realDonaldTrump — and I’ll continue to do so for as long as he calls on me.” His remarks come amid backlash over a DOJ-FBI memo released earlier this week, which concluded that Epstein died by suicide and that no credible evidence exists of a “client list” or blackmail operation.
The memo has sparked outrage among conservative commentators and MAGA-aligned figures, many of whom had long demanded transparency and the release of Epstein-related documents. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who previously claimed to possess the alleged client list, has faced mounting criticism for what some see as a reversal of her earlier promises.
Reports of internal discord have intensified, with Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino reportedly considering resignation following a heated confrontation with Bondi during a White House meeting. Patel’s statement appears aimed at quelling speculation that he too might step down in protest.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche also weighed in, stating that both Patel and Bongino had signed off on the memo’s contents, and that “the suggestion by anyone that there was any daylight between the FBI and DOJ leadership on this memo’s composition and release is patently false.”
The controversy has reignited public interest in Epstein’s connections to powerful figures, despite the DOJ’s assertion that no further documents will be released. President Trump, who has previously downplayed the issue, expressed frustration over renewed media attention, calling it “unbelievable” that reporters raised the topic during a Cabinet meeting.
