Pakistan and China Deepen Media Cooperation to Combat Misinformation

Beijing, July 11, 2025 — Pakistan and China have pledged to intensify their media collaboration in a joint effort to counter the growing threat of misinformation and fake news, following a high-level meeting in Beijing between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar and Chinese Vice Minister Cao Shumin.
The two sides agreed to launch joint broadcasting initiatives, enhance technical training, and promote institutional cooperation between state-run media outlets such as Pakistan Television (PTV) and China Central Television (CCTV). The partnership aims to develop a unified narrative that reflects shared values and strategic interests, particularly in the context of regional tensions and digital disinformation campaigns.
Minister Tarar emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to transforming media cooperation into actionable outcomes. He highlighted the role of PTV, Radio Pakistan, and the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) in showcasing China’s development, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Urdu-speaking audiences.
Cao Shumin reaffirmed China’s trust in Pakistan as a reliable partner and stressed the importance of people-to-people exchanges, including mutual visits by digital influencers and journalists. She noted that closer media ties would help foster cultural understanding and amplify accurate reporting across both nations.
The meeting also addressed the impact of social media solidarity during recent Pakistan-India tensions, with both ministers praising youth-led digital campaigns that highlighted the strength of bilateral friendship.
As misinformation continues to challenge global media landscapes, the Pakistan-China alliance seeks to build a resilient and coordinated front—one that not only counters false narratives but also strengthens the cultural and strategic bonds between the two countries.
