Massive Russian Strikes on Ukraine’s Arms Manufacturing Plants

Russian forces carried out massive overnight attacks targeting Ukraine’s arms manufacturing plants, confirmed Russia’s Ministry of Defense in a statement released on Monday.According to the statement, Russia launched hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and explosive-laden drones overnight on Sunday, aiming at Ukraine’s arms production facilities and oil refineries. However, the Ministry did not specify the number of missiles and drones used or the extent of the damage caused.Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military reported that more than 20 missiles and at least 40 explosive drones managed to evade the country’s air defense systems and entered Ukrainian airspace overnight on Sunday. Yet, the Ukrainian armed forces also refrained from disclosing details about the resulting damage.Stefan Kuliniak, a top Ukrainian military commander in Drohobych city in western Ukraine, posted on social media that aside from a fire breaking out in a military factory, there was no further damage from the Russian strikes. However, it is widely believed that the actual damage could be much more extensive.The ongoing conflict stems from tensions over Ukraine’s bid for NATO membership and Ukraine’s refusal to recognize Russia’s annexation of Crimea, as stipulated in the 2015 Minsk Agreement. Following years of strained relations, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, under orders from President Vladimir Putin.As of 2025, the war has entered its third year, with Russian forces occupying four Ukrainian provinces: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia. Together, these territories constitute about one-fifth of Ukraine’s total land area.The international community has made several attempts to halt the war, but all efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
