US Fails to Destroy Iran’s Nuclear Facilities: Intelligence Report

Date:

US intelligence officials have stated in preliminary assessments that the country’s strikes did not completely destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities. They believe the program has only been delayed by a few months and suffered no lasting damage, according to British news agency Reuters.Amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, the United States became unexpectedly involved. President Donald Trump stated that 30,000-pound bombs were used to target Iran’s nuclear facilities. However, three US administration officials revealed that initial intelligence reports contradict Trump’s claims that the Iranian nuclear program was wiped out.One official noted that Iran’s uranium enrichment activities have not been completely eliminated and have only been delayed for a few months.Iran’s nuclear activities are conducted underground, and according to their claims, the primary objective of the program is civilian energy production.Another official cited in the report said that the US strikes only completely blocked the entrances to two facilities, but the underground infrastructure remained intact.According to The Washington Post, which cited a person familiar with the full report, multiple centrifuges remained undamaged even after the strikes. On Tuesday, in a meeting of the US National Security Council, Trump claimed that the Iranian nuclear program was damaged by the strikes. Earlier, he had said the program was entirely eliminated. On the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that the risk of nuclear war had been averted by neutralizing Iran. He also warned that any future attempt to develop nuclear weapons would be met with the same determination.Netanyahu stated, “We have resolved two immediate crises threatening our existence – the risk of Iran developing nuclear weapons and the threat of their 20,000 ballistic missiles.”Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian claimed that his country had successfully ended the war and described it as a great victory. According to Iranian news agency IRNA, he told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that Iran is ready to normalize relations with the United States. On June 13, Israel launched airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military installations, claiming Iran was on the verge of developing nuclear weapons and that the strikes were necessary to stop it at any cost.Denying the allegation of building nuclear weapons, Iran responded to the Israeli strikes by launching a barrage of missiles.
