UN Warns of Escalating Conflict Following US Airstrikes on Iran

Date:

The United Nations has responded to the U.S. airstrikes on Iran, expressing concern over an escalation of the ongoing conflict. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the strike as a “terrifying intensification” of the situation in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), according to BBC reports.Guterres warned that the conflict is now at high risk of spiraling out of control, potentially creating catastrophic consequences for civilians, the Middle East, and the world. In his post, Guterres wrote that only diplomacy can solve this crisis and restore peace at this moment.Following the U.S. attack on Iran, former U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the nation. He later issued a second threat to Iran via a social media post on Truth Social, stating that any retaliation by Iran would be met with an even more powerful response from the United States. In one of his posts, Trump warned that if Iran launches any counterattack against the United States, America’s response will be many times stronger.Earlier, Trump claimed that the U.S. had successfully completed airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities. He alleged that those nuclear sites had been completely destroyed, and he issued further threats of additional attacks.
