Trump Calls for Special Prosecutor to Investigate 2020 Election

Date:

US President Donald Trump on Friday called for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate allegations of fraud in the 2020 presidential election—claims that have been widely debunked and repeatedly dismissed by courts. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:> “Biden was grossly incompetent, and the 2020 election was a total FRAUD! The evidence is MASSIVE and OVERWHELMING. A Special Prosecutor must be appointed. This cannot be allowed to happen again in the United States of America! Let the work begin!”Trump also claimed that he had nearly stopped illegal immigration during his presidency, contrasting it with what he described as a surge under President Biden.Despite Trump’s ongoing assertions, there is no credible evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. Multiple lawsuits filed by Trump’s allies were thrown out by courts across the country, including rulings by judges appointed by Republican presidents. Several states, including Georgia, conducted audits that reaffirmed the results.Trump’s rejection of the 2020 election outcome led to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol during the congressional certification of President Biden’s victory. Trump was indicted in 2023 by a Washington grand jury for his role in efforts to overturn the election but the charges were later dropped after his return to office in 2024.
