London, June 12 — Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government, was forced to enter the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) through a backdoor this morning as angry protesters gathered outside the venue.
A large section of the UK-based Bangladeshi community staged a fierce demonstration against Yunus while he delivered a special lecture on “Bangladesh’s Challenges and Opportunities.”
Protesters—many affiliated with the UK branches of Bangladesh’s ruling Awami League and its allied organizations—accused Yunus of seizing power unlawfully and demanded that his assets be frozen.
Chanting slogans such as “Yunus, go back” and “Resign now,” the demonstrators waved placards and expressed outrage at Yunus’s leadership of the unelected interim administration in Dhaka.
Viral videos circulating on social media showed demonstrators massing outside Chatham House as Yunus’s motorcade arrived. Sources confirmed that due to security concerns, Yunus had to be escorted through the building’s back entrance to avoid the crowd.
Protesters alleged that “Dr. Yunus has taken power unconstitutionally and illegally,” further deepening the controversy surrounding his ongoing UK visit.
Yunus’s speech at Chatham House comes amid heightened political tensions in Bangladesh and increasing international scrutiny of the country’s interim government.
