The Voice News : At least 40 more Palestinians were killed and over 200 injured in a single day of Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip. With these casualties, the total death toll in the blockaded enclave has surpassed 54,500.
Additionally, since the renewed Israeli offensive began on March 18, over 4,200 Palestinians have been killed. This information was reported by the Anadolu news agency on Tuesday (June 3).
According to Anadolu, citing the Palestinian Ministry of Health, at least 54,510 Palestinians have been killed since Israel began its military operation in Gaza in October 2023.
A statement released on Tuesday noted that 40 bodies were brought to hospitals in the last 24 hours. In the same time frame, 208 people were injured, bringing the total number of injured to 124,901.
The statement further added:
“Many people are still trapped under rubble and on the streets. Rescue teams have been unable to reach them.”
In January of this year, a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement had been reached, but Israel resumed attacks on March 18, breaking that deal. Since then, air and ground assaults in Gaza have intensified.
According to the Ministry of Health, since the renewed Israeli airstrikes began on March 18, a total of 4,240 Palestinians have been killed, and 12,860 others injured. This brutal campaign by Israel shattered the ceasefire agreement that had been in place since January.
The United Nations reports that around 90% of Gaza’s population has been displaced due to the relentless Israeli assault. Most of the enclave’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
Earlier, in November last year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel is also facing genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its aggression in the besieged territory.
