Washington, D.C. — Members of Pakistani, Kashmiri, and Sikh communities staged a protest in front of the Indian Embassy in Washington, denouncing Indian policies and calling for the independence of Kashmir and Khalistan. The demonstration was led by Friends of Kashmir Chairperson Ghazala Habib, with participation from various overseas Pakistani and Kashmiri organizations as well as Khalistan movement leaders.
Protesters carried placards and banners, chanting slogans against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government. Calls for justice and the continuation of Kashmir’s freedom movement were among the key demands raised during the demonstration.
Several community leaders addressed the gathering, including Ghazala Habib, Sikh for Justice central leader Balwinder Singh Chatha, and Kashmiri community leader Muhammad Zubair Khan. Speakers alleged that the recent Pahalgam incident was a false flag operation orchestrated by Indian authorities. They cited historical incidents, such as the 2000 massacre of 35 Sikhs in Chittisinghpura during President Clinton’s visit, as evidence of India’s efforts to spread propaganda against Pakistan.
The speakers further criticized India’s long-standing presence in Jammu and Kashmir, expressing disappointment over the international community’s silence on the issue. “It is regrettable that global institutions continue to ignore the plight of Kashmiris and India’s occupation,” said one protester.
The demonstration concluded with demands for international intervention and a renewed commitment to advocacy for the rights of Kashmiris and Sikhs.
