Background:
The South Asia Democratic Forum (SADF) submitted a formal appeal to the UN Special Rapporteur expressing grave concern over the Government of Bangladesh’s decision, dated 10 May 2025, to ban all political activities of the Bangladesh Awami League under the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009. The Awami League is one of the country’s oldest and most significant political parties.
