Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended the recently signed framework agreement with Lebanon, calling it a landmark political and security achievement for Israel. Speaking to the Israeli public, Netanyahu said the agreement effectively gives Israel the right to retain control over southern Lebanon until all security conditions outlined in the deal are fully met.
According to Netanyahu, the agreement separates the Lebanon issue from the broader understanding reached between the United States and Iran, while also securing recognition from both Washington and Beirut for Israel’s continued military presence in the south.
He said the 14-point framework places the burden of compliance solely on the Lebanese government, rather than on both parties jointly. Until those conditions are verified and implemented, Israel would be allowed to continue its occupation in the area.
Netanyahu argued that the arrangement could enable Israel to maintain a long-term, potentially indefinite, presence in southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, Israeli Defence Minister has reportedly instructed the military to prepare for an extended deployment in the region, signaling that the agreement may strengthen Netanyahu’s position domestically in the coming weeks.
The development has already triggered strong reactions across the region, with Hezbollah rejecting the deal and describing it as a form of surrender.
