Miami, June 25: Brazil secured their place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stage in style, defeating Scotland 3-0 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami to finish as Group C champions.
In front of a sea of yellow-clad supporters, Brazil dominated the match from the opening whistle, with Vinícius Júnior stealing the spotlight by scoring twice in the first half.
Brazil took the lead in the 7th minute after a costly mistake by Scotland defender Scott McKenna. The loose ball fell kindly to Vinicius, who calmly rounded goalkeeper Angus Gunn before slotting home.
The Brazilian forward thought he had doubled the lead in the 24th minute, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review for a foul in the buildup.
However, Vinicius made no mistake in stoppage time of the first half. Meeting a precise cross from Bruno Guimarães, he headed home to make it 2-0 and claim his fourth goal of the tournament.
Scotland managed their first shot on target early in the second half through Scott McTominay, but Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker dealt with it comfortably.
Brazil sealed the victory in the 60th minute when Matheus Cunha finished off a flowing move after assists from Casemiro and Bruno Guimarães.
Veteran star Neymar came off the bench in the 76th minute but had little impact as Brazil comfortably saw out the match.
With the win, Brazil national football team and Morocco national football team both advanced to the last 32 with seven points each. Brazil finished top of the group on goal difference, while Morocco qualified as runners-up.
