The Bangladesh Awami League and its affiliated organisations staged a series of flash processions across Dhaka and several districts on Sunday, defying restrictions and triggering heightened political tension ahead of the party’s founding anniversary on June 23.
In the capital’s Mohammadpur College Gate area, party activists brought out a sudden procession in the morning, prompting swift action by law enforcement. Police dispersed the rally and detained at least 10 people, according to local sources.
A similar procession was reported in Gazipur under the banner of the Jubo League, where participants chanted slogans and reportedly issued warnings against law enforcement agencies.
Security officials said the latest demonstrations are part of a growing pattern of “flash processions” organised by Awami League supporters in recent weeks in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chattogram, despite the party remaining under strict political and administrative pressure.
Political analysts view the rallies as an attempt by the Awami League to signal its organisational presence and grassroots resilience ahead of its 77th founding anniversary. However, the government’s firm stance and increased surveillance have limited the scale of such activities.
Authorities have tightened security in key areas across the country to prevent any potential unrest, as political uncertainty continues to shape Bangladesh’s evolving landscape.
