Members of the Gopalganj unit of the Chhatra League staged a road blockade and protest rally on Wednesday, condemning what they described as the country’s increasingly undemocratic political environment and restrictions on political activities.
The protesters blocked the Dhaka–Khulna Highway in the Miyapara area of Gopalganj around noon. During the demonstration, they burned tires on the road and chanted various slogans against the ongoing political situation.
The blockade temporarily disrupted traffic movement on the highway, causing inconvenience to commuters and transport operators. The demonstrators maintained the protest for about half an hour before withdrawing the blockade.
No reports of violence or arrests were immediately available.
