WASHINGTON, D.C., June 1, 2026 — U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Iran has not officially informed Washington of any decision to suspend talks between the two countries, emphasizing that the United States remains prepared to wait for Tehran’s next move.
In an interview with NBC News, Trump said the U.S. had received no formal notification from Iran regarding a halt in discussions. He added that the absence of communication does not mean Washington intends to escalate the situation militarily, stressing that existing sanctions and pressure measures would remain in place.
The remarks came after Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran had halted all exchanges of messages with the United States in response to Israel’s continued military operations in Lebanon. Iranian government officials have not yet issued an official statement confirming the report.
According to Tasnim, Iranian authorities and their regional allies are considering a range of options, including the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the activation of other fronts in the region.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that a comprehensive ceasefire in Lebanon remains an essential condition for any agreement with the United States. He argued that a violation on one front of a broader ceasefire arrangement would effectively constitute a violation across all fronts.
