Kiefer Sutherland Arrested Over Alleged Assault of Ride-Share Driver in Hollywood

Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested in Hollywood following allegations that he assaulted and threatened a ride-share driver, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The incident reportedly occurred at around 12:15 a.m. local time on Monday at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. Police said Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats. The victim was not injured in the incident. Sutherland, 59, was taken into custody and later released after posting a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on 2 February. The LAPD’s Hollywood Division is continuing its investigation into the matter. The actor is widely known for his role as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in the television series 24, as well as for portraying the US president in Designated Survivor. He is the son of late actor Donald Sutherland. This is not Sutherland’s first encounter with law enforcement. In 2007, he served a 48-day jail sentence for driving under the influence and violating probation. He was also arrested on assault charges in 2009, though those charges were later dropped, and was detained in 2020 after making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood. The BBC has contacted Sutherland’s representatives for comment, but no response has yet been received.
