Turkey and Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in the defense industry, marking another step toward strengthening bilateral military and industrial ties.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Balkan Shield Industrial Expo and Summit 2026 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where representatives from the two countries held discussions on expanding cooperation in the defense sector.
According to Anadolu Agency, Turkey’s Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE) signed the agreements with Egypt’s Heliopolis Chemical Industries and Helwan Company for Engineering Industries.
Egyptian Minister of State for Military Production Salah Soliman Gembalat said the agreements would create new opportunities for industrial partnerships between the two countries and facilitate the exchange of technology and technical expertise.
Turkey’s deputy defense minister also highlighted the progress in bilateral relations and expressed Ankara’s interest in further strengthening defense cooperation with Cairo.
The latest agreement comes amid growing security and defense coordination among several countries in the Middle East.
Turkey has reportedly backed Egypt’s potential participation in a newly emerging regional security framework led by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey, referred to in some reports as the Mecca Defense Alliance.
The new defense-industrial agreements could further facilitate closer strategic cooperation between Turkey and Egypt as both countries seek to expand their defense capabilities and industrial partnerships.
