Delhi, India, 15 August- The Delhi High Court received a bomb threat via email on Friday, August 14, a day before India’s 80th Independence Day, prompting security agencies to launch searches across the court premises and several other key locations in the capital.

According to India’s news agency ANI, the High Court’s Registrar General is in contact with Delhi Police following the threat.

Delhi High Court Joint Secretary and advocate Kunal told ANI that the threat appeared to be a hoax and that the situation was under control. Bomb disposal teams and trained sniffer dogs were conducting searches throughout the court complex, with no immediate threat detected.

The Delhi Fire Service said it had also received bomb threat calls and messages concerning five other important locations: Jamnagar House, Jhandewalan Flatted Factory Complex, the MB Saket office/DM office, Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport and the SDM office in Delhi Cantonment.

Fire service vehicles were dispatched to the locations immediately after the threats were reported. Searches conducted so far have not found any suspicious objects, according to ANI.

The threats come as security has been heightened across the Indian capital ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
