Bangladesh Police on High Alert Over Possible Bomb Attacks

Date:

DHAKA, Aug. 8, 2026 — Bangladesh police have been placed on high alert following intelligence reports warning of possible bomb attacks and acts of sabotage across the country, police officials said.

Police Headquarters issued the alert on Friday night, directing officers deployed at nighttime checkpoints, patrols and mobile units in all districts to exercise heightened vigilance while on duty.

Police were also instructed to immediately notify senior authorities of any suspicious or untoward incident, according to the directive.

The warning was circulated nationwide through police radio communications, while messages were sent separately to the heads of various police units, according to Police Headquarters sources.

Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, additional inspector general for crime and operations at Police Headquarters, said police routinely issue security alerts based on intelligence assessments.

“Intelligence information suggests that extremist groups or criminals may attempt to carry out bomb attacks or other acts of sabotage,” he told reporters.

The latest alert comes amid heightened security concerns, with police units across the country instructed to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent any possible incident.
