China Launches New Five-Year Plan, Communist Party Meeting Begins

Date:

The ruling Communist Party of China has begun a four-day key meeting in the capital, Beijing, to discuss the country’s upcoming five-year development plan, according to state media reports.

In addition to planning the country’s future development, the meeting will also cover important appointments within the party and government. This information was reported on Monday (October 20) by TRT World.
During the opening session, Chinese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party Xi Jinping presented a work report on behalf of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee.

In his address, he elaborated on the draft proposal for the 15th Five-Year National Economic and Social Development Plan, which will span from 2026 to 2030.
The meeting, scheduled to run through Thursday, is expected to also include discussions on key government and party appointments and the distribution of responsibilities.
For context, the Communist Party’s Central Committee consists of 205 top officials and 167 alternate members, making it the party’s highest policymaking body. The committee is also responsible for nominating and electing members to the Politburo and other crucial positions.

This meeting, held under Xi Jinping’s leadership, comes at a time when China, the world’s second-largest economy, has recorded 4.8% GDP growth in the third quarter of 2025.
Despite global economic challenges, China has set a target of around 5% annual GDP growth for the current year.
