WASHINGTON, D.C. : In a landmark moment for global diplomacy, President Donald J. Trump welcomed Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to the White House On 8th August Friday , where the two leaders signed a historic joint declaration officially ending decades of hostility between their nations.
The agreement, brokered by President Trump after months of intensive negotiations, marks the first formal peace accord between Armenia and Azerbaijan since the onset of conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region more than 35 years ago. The deal also includes new bilateral economic agreements between each country and the United States, aimed at expanding trade, energy cooperation, infrastructure investment, and technological development in the South Caucasus.
“For more than 35 years, Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought a bitter conflict that resulted in tremendous suffering for both nations… Many tried to find a resolution… and they were unsuccessful. With this Accord, we’ve finally succeeded in making peace,” said President Trump at the signing ceremony in the State Dining Room of the White House.
President Aliyev praised the U.S. President’s decisive leadership: “It’s a day which will be remembered by the people of Azerbaijan with a feeling of pride and gratitude to President Trump… Within several months, he managed to put an end to conflicts in Asia, in Africa, and now in South Caucasus — what we could not achieve for more than 30 years.”
Prime Minister Pashinyan echoed those sentiments, calling the agreement a “significant milestone” and credited President Trump’s “personal engagement and resolute commitment to peace” as the key to success.
