Date:

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has announced that he has submitted his resignation. He said on Tuesday that he handed in his resignation letter as part of a major reshuffle in the war-torn country’s government.Earlier on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky nominated First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko for the position of Prime Minister.

Shmyhal had been serving as Prime Minister since 2020.In a statement on social media, Zelensky said, “I have proposed Yulia Svyrydenko to lead the Ukrainian government and restart its functions. I am looking forward to presenting the new government’s work plan soon.”Shmyhal shared a photo of his resignation letter on his Telegram channel, writing, “Thanks to my entire team for their tireless work for the country!” He confirmed that he has formally submitted his resignation to Ukraine’s parliament (Verkhovna Rada).

He also expressed his gratitude to President Zelensky for placing his trust in him.Local Ukrainian media reports suggest that outgoing Prime Minister Shmyhal may be appointed as Ukraine’s new Minister of Defense. The current Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, is reportedly being considered for the post of Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States. On Monday, President Zelensky met with First Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and offered her the position of head of government. Zelensky said that this marks the beginning of an executive branch reshuffle in Ukraine.

Strengthening Kyiv’s authority is the goal of this transformation.Back in February this year, a major dispute erupted between the United States and Ukraine over a rare mineral resources deal. At that time, Kyiv’s relations with its crucial military ally, Washington, nearly collapsed.

During a White House visit, President Zelensky even got into a verbal clash with U.S. President Donald Trump. It was during that period that 39-year-old Yulia Svyrydenko came into the spotlight.
