Iran Reveals Details of June 26 Israeli Attack at UN Security Council Meeting

New York, July 13, 2025 — In a high-stakes session of the United Nations Security Council, Iran disclosed extensive details of the Israeli military operation conducted on June 26, which targeted multiple nuclear and military sites across the country. The revelations came amid mounting international concern over the escalating conflict between the two regional powers.
Iran’s UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani described the Israeli strikes as a “declaration of war” and a “direct assault on international order,” claiming the attacks killed 78 people and injured over 320. The operation reportedly destroyed the above-ground enrichment plant at Natanz, a key facility in Iran’s nuclear program, causing radiological and chemical contamination that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) deemed “manageable”.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed that uranium enriched up to 60% was being produced at the Natanz site prior to the attack. While the underground cascade hall appeared intact, the loss of power may have damaged critical centrifuges. Grossi reiterated that nuclear facilities must never be attacked, regardless of the context, and offered to deploy nuclear security experts to assist Iran.
Israel’s Ambassador Danny Danon defended the operation as “an act of national preservation,” asserting that Iran was days away from producing weapons-grade fissile material. “We will not hesitate, we will not relent, and we will not allow a genocidal regime to endanger our people,” Danon told the Council.
Iran countered the strikes with a barrage of ballistic missiles targeting Israeli sites, affirming its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter. Iravani warned that Iran’s response would be “decisive and proportionate,” and accused the United States of sharing intelligence and political support for the Israeli operation.
UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo and Secretary-General António Guterres urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint. “We must, at all costs, avoid a growing conflagration that would have enormous global consequences,” DiCarlo said.
The June 26 attack marks a dramatic escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict, which had already intensified following a series of targeted assassinations and retaliatory strikes earlier this year. Diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States, including nuclear negotiations scheduled in Oman, remain in limbo amid the fallout.
