Officer Injured, Gunman Killed in Shootout at Texas Border Patrol Facility

A 27-year-old man wearing tactical gear and carrying a rifle was shot and killed Monday morning after exchanging gunfire with law enforcement at a U.S. Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas. The incident left two officers and one Border Patrol employee injured.According to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, the suspect opened fire at the entrance of the Border Patrol sector annex. Border Patrol agents and local police responded, ultimately killing the shooter.

One officer was shot in the knee and hospitalized along with the other injured individuals.McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez identified the suspect as Ryan Luis, 27, who was linked to a Michigan address and vehicle plates.

Police discovered another rifle and additional weapons in his car. Chief Rodriguez said Luis fired dozens of rounds before being stopped by federal agents.Rodriguez confirmed that Border Patrol agents returned fire, ending the threat.

He assured the public there were no further known threats in the area but noted the FBI is leading the ongoing investigation.Authorities have yet to determine a motive. The suspect’s car was spray-painted with the phrase “Cordis Die,” a reference found in the “Call of Duty” video game series, according to officials familiar with the case.Luis had reportedly been declared missing from the nearby town of Weslaco, Texas, earlier that day.

Further details on the circumstances of his disappearance remain unclear.
