Death Penalty for Ties with Israel: Iran Passes New Law

Anyone maintaining cooperative relations with Israel will face the death penalty under a newly passed law in Iran. The Iranian parliament approved the legislation on Tuesday (July 1). In addition to Israel, Iranian citizens are also prohibited from maintaining contact with other so-called “enemy” countries.The law also includes a ban on the use of Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink.According to the new law, engaging in intelligence activities, espionage, or maintaining relations with Israel, the United States, or any other enemy states will be considered “corruption on earth” — a crime punishable by death.Specifically naming Israel, the law states that anyone providing military, financial, or technological support to the country will face the maximum punishment.Furthermore, the purchase, sale, or possession of unauthorized internet service equipment such as Starlink will be deemed a serious offense. Anyone found guilty could face six months to two years in prison.Those involved in producing or importing more than 10 such banned devices may face five to ten years in prison.The law also stipulates that individuals involved in manufacturing military drones, conducting cyberattacks, or committing acts of sabotage targeting Iranian infrastructure for enemy states will be sentenced to death. Even attempts to commit such acts will be punishable by death.Additionally, anyone found guilty of publishing false information or creating content that incites division, fear, or threatens national security could face 10 to 15 years in prison.Sending photos or videos to foreign media that are deemed damaging to the morale of the Iranian public could result in two to five years of imprisonment.
