Iran-Israel ‘Exhausted’, Conflict May Resume: Trump

Although Iran and Israel agreed to a ceasefire after 10 consecutive days of conflict with U.S. intervention, U.S. President Donald Trump believes they have not truly paused the war. He expressed concern that the two sides may return to conflict ‘any day now.’Trump was in The Hague, Netherlands, on Wednesday for the NATO Summit. While speaking to journalists during a break in the summit, Trump responded to a question about the recent Iran-Israel conflict, saying:> “Many of us think it’s over. But I don’t believe Iran and Israel have genuinely honored the ceasefire. In my view, they were exhausted from intense and brutal fighting and are simply resting now.”“Could the conflict restart? I think it could happen any day — and that day may come very soon.”Notably, on June 13, Israel’s air force launched airstrikes on Tehran and other locations, accusing Iran of being on the verge of developing a nuclear bomb. In response, Iran began launching missile attacks on various Israeli targets.Ten days into the conflict, around midnight on June 22, the U.S. Air Force attacked three of Israel’s nuclear facilities. The U.S. Central Command named the mission “Operation Midnight Hammer.”One day after this operation, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. He also claimed that Operation Midnight Hammer had struck the heart of Iran’s nuclear capability, making it impossible for the country to ever revive its nuclear program.Speaking in The Hague, Trump credited the U.S. for halting the Iran-Israel conflict:> “The ceasefire only became possible when the United States intervened. When our fighter jets hit multiple Iranian nuclear sites—that’s when the war essentially ended.”
